Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy

Bioidentical Hormone Therapy for Schertz, Selma, Cibolo & Garden Ridge, TX

Are you struggling with the effects of menopause? Are hot flashes and night sweats making it hard for you to feel comfortable? Are moodiness and forgetfulness making it difficult for you to get through the day?

If that’s the case, call  the experts to Total Health Primary Care. Our doctors work with menopausal and peri-menopausal women to help them find relief. That’s why we are proud to offer bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT).

The symptoms of menopause are caused by a natural drop-off in hormones that occur as we age. BHRT works to ease those symptoms by providing you with the hormones that your body is no longer producing. These hormones have the same chemical composition as the hormones your body used to naturally create – that’s why they’re called bioidentical. They can bring relief!

Benefits and Risks of Bioidentical Hormone Therapy

The benefits of bioidentical hormone therapy are easy to explain: they can relieve your menopausal symptoms and help you feel better. They can even reduce the risk of osteoporosis. There have also been some studies in rats showing that one of the hormones BHRT can prevent breast tumors; however, it hasn’t yet been proven that women would see the same benefit.

But like all medical treatments, BHRT carries risk. The biggest risk is that long-term use of BHRT (think decades) can increase the risk of negative health outcomes like strokes, heart attacks, blood clots, and even breast cancer. The reason why this is considered to be a risk is because conventional hormone replacement therapy was linked to these effects and thus far there is no evidence to suggest that BHRT is any safer. Because of this, many doctors counsel patients to use the smallest possible dose of BHRT for only as long as they need to get through the worst of their menopause symptoms.

Of course, just because certain risks and benefits have been shown across large populations doesn’t mean that a particular treatment will or won’t work for you. The only way to find out is to work with a bioidentical trained doctor who can give you tailored advice.
